Making Campfire Popcorn

When you are camping, it is always nice to have a hot meal at the end of the day, and while there are the old camping standbys of s’mores and hot dogs, one treat you might not have thought of is popcorn! As long as you start a fire at the end of the day (and bring along a few simple materials), you can make some delicious campfire popcorn – which is a magnificent way to close out a day of camping!

If you want to make some delicious campfire popcorn, you will need to bring tin foil with you on your camping trip, and will also, of course, need to bring a bit of cooking oil and some popcorn kernels (as well as any seasoning you typically put on your popcorn.

The first thing you need to do to prepare the popcorn for popping is to tear off a sheet of tin foil about a foot and a half long, and you will need to put two teaspoons of oil and four teaspoons of popcorn kernels into the center of the foil. After you have taken care of this step, you need to create a sort of “cooking tent” out of the tin foil, first bringing two opposite corners together and rolling them down two or three times, then bringing the other two corners together and rolling these down as well (when you do this, make sure there is enough space inside for the kernels to pop).

The Ultimate Campfire Kitchen Cooking Guide!

The process is a piece of cake from this point forward; firstly, you need to attach your “tent” to a stick (just like you would a marshmallow or a hot dog), and you need to set the foil in the coals. Secondly, once you hear the first “pop” of the popcorn, you will raise the tin foil tent off the coals and hold it over the fire, shaking it around a little bit until you hear the popping slow down to about one pop every two or three seconds.

Of course, the last step of the process is a no-brainer: enjoy your campfire popcorn!
